A Hometown Advantage?!
Crazy reactions from many pageant fans came out after declaring Japan as the winner in their own country, who will forget Miss World 2012? Many said that winning in their own country is starting to make a trend in pageants. Are we expecting Miss Earth Crown for Philippines and Olivia Culpo as Miss Universe 2012? Winning in home country is not really new in Big 4 Pageant, Denise Quinones won Miss Universe 2001 in her home country Puerto Rico, Miss Earth 2008 Karla Henry was crowned here in the Philippines and of course Miss World 2007, Zhang Zi Lin and Miss World 2012, Wen Xia Yu won in China.
Ikumi may not be that gorgeous as the candidates from Colombia, Venezuela, our very own Philippines and other delegates, but for sure there is something in her that the judges saw that represent Miss International. I watched Miss Japan’s speech again, and I must say, its like she is in Senate hearing. She delivered it with conviction. This just tell us, that beauty pageant is not just the beauty outside.
And to be really fair, Miss International is owned by Japan for more than 50 years of existence, this is the first time a Japanese won the title.
On Nicole Schmitz
Nicole Schmitz really showed that she wants the 5th crown for Philippines. She really did a good job on her swimsuit and evening gown walk, which I believe the reason why she got a spot in the Top 15. When she delivered her speech, I said, she will get that crown or she will be in the Top 5. Oh well, it didn’t happen. But I still believe she made us Filipinos proud. Being there in Miss International wearing the Philippine sash is already an achievement.
I just don’t like Nicole’s bun during the evening competition. I guess its better if she keeps her hairstyle same as during the swimsuit competition. I guess she just want to show different looks, but overall she did an awesome job representing Philippines.
